I Don't Understand the Prevalence of Racism

In the wake of the up and coming 2008 Presidential elections along with some things I and my family are experiencing in our everyday lives I am simply perplexed by the prevalence of racism.

I have written about racism in the work place before, in cases where there is an over qualified individual of a minority "racial" group and a less or completely unqualified individual who is white getting a job or position over the minority. Or cases in which black employees are reprimanded or even fired for mistakes or offenses that are hardly noticed when done by white employees. This is not to the benefit of minorities and certainly not to the benefit of all Americans.

On a small scale what this does is diminish the overall quality of our establishments. If people are being hired only because they are white and not because they have an outstanding ability to perform there jobs in the presence of non-whites that are able to perform these same jobs exceptionally, we are stunting the growth in quality and efficiency in our own work sectors. As a human being in every sector of employment I would optimally seek the best individuals for a given job regardless of their skin color or country of origin.

Not hiring or promoting minorities who are qualified and who have worked very hard in their career field to achieve high levels experiential and/or academic knowledge discourages these groups of people from pursuing these careers. Regardless of the color of a persons skin, if we as Americans have more people striving for better jobs, higher levels of education it benefits Americans as a whole. I have heard many white people complain about minority groups, stereotyping them as criminals, delinquents, lazy etc. But these same people are the type that will oppress a minority who is the complete opposite of those stereotypes. This does not make since. It is illogical to promote a phenomenon that is undesirable for you. If you do not like minorities to become criminals then it would make sense to create fair opportunities for minorities to excel in more acceptable professions in society.

As far as the elections are concerned I can only say how sad a mental condition it is for the American people if they will simply hand over the well being of their country to a lesser candidate because the outstanding candidate is black. If that is what takes place on election day, and the condition of this country continues to decay I can only feel sorry for those who voted without bias, that it is racism that decides what happens to America.

The reality of the matter is that there are minorities out there who are being paid entry level salaries but are doing managerial work while there are white people out there getting those higher salaries but doing entry level work. If we take this at the level of instant gratification it would make some sense that white people would not fight against these injustices and those committing them would continue but on a grand scale, this does not encourage white people to strive for their full potential since they are rewarded for mediocre effort. It also discourages minorities for striving for higher standards as stated before. What this all leads to is essentially a dumbed down country of people. Americans absolutely NEED to stop thinking in terms of irrelevant racial categorizations and start viewing its people homogeneously under the umbrella of human beings first and Americans working for a common interest secondly. If we can do that we will begin to see a turn around in things. I fully believe that things like racism does pan over into the well being of the country along with other factors and we are probably seeing the effects of these things right now. Are we going to let the cycle continue?

To the white people out there who are reluctant to promote that prized worker because he or she is not white, reluctant to vote for Obama, because he is black, I just want to let you know, that black people don't have cooties ^^. Its safe to like, be fair to, admire, and treat minorities like you would any other respectable person with the same skin color as you and it is actually to your personal benefit and the benefit of America as a whole to do so.

So please, I hope you all can come to a point with in yourselves that you think about this logically and morally. Make the right choice on election day & and make the right choices when it comes to how you treat other human beings.
